Home Staging Tips

A quicker home sale can be reached by keeping in mind the needs of the home’s most likely buyer and creating a fresh inspiring look just for them, according to Pulte Homes expert Janice Jones, national vice president of merchandising.

“Everyone understands the value of de-cluttering, cleaning and refreshing a home in today’s competitive market,” Jones said. “The difference between a ‘For Sale’ and a ‘Sold’ sign often boils down to effectively staging a home to appeal to young singles, families or empty nesters—the three largest customer segments that are likely to buy your home. Home sellers should have a good idea of the type of buyer who will make an offer and, since everyone likes an updated home, some simple refreshes can achieve an updated look and feel.”

Save Green with These Green Decorating Ideas

Recycling Greeting Cards and Ribbon

  • Get the kids involved creating gift tags, holiday invitations and ornaments using old holiday greeting cards. Give each child safety scissors, a glue stick, some ribbon and glitter and let them go to it. Have them glue on glitter to the edges to make a frame, punch a hole, and hang up the card with a wire hook.
  • Hang this year's cards (as they arrive), along with a few festive decorations, across a window from a length of string. Use small plastic clothes pegs to hold in place.
  • Honor your family with a garland of photos hung across a fireplace mantel with small dolly pegs. Add new photos every year.
  • Create festive paper cones from old greeting cards or sheet music and fill with candy and other goodies. Hang in unexpected places as a surprise.
  • Use any leftover ribbon to trim an outdoor Christmas tree. Tie ribbon into bows and secure to tree

Going Green in Baby Steps - Green Holiday Decorating Ideas

Christmas Tree Lights That Don’t Die: Bid adieu to those old fashion holiday lights that barely survive one Christmas season without burning out. Instead opt for Forever Lights (23 1/2′ string for under $20) which are made from LED bulbs and are very Green since “they last for about 200,000 hours, and use almost 80% less electricity than incandescent lights.” On top of being energy efficient “Forever Lights” will illuminate your tree up to 20 years even if one bulb burns out the rest will keep shining. Just think of the reduction in discarded Christmas Tree lights at landfills and the reduction in carbon emissions and other plastics related toxins that will no longer have to be created to produce another non-Green Christmas light string.
